This month, we’re screening two films on wheels – Verses on Wheels (2025), directed by Taranga, and Tyres (2013).

Synopses: Verses on Wheels traces two generations of truck drivers – a father and his two sons – painting a broader picture of the truck-driving community, revealing how the literature in their vehicles reflects their lived realities. The prose and poetry etched in paint act as windows to their struggles and aspirations, capturing the spirit of labour, camaraderie and the open road.

Tyres features a tyre recycling workshop in South Okkalapa as the site of multiple uses and multiple deaths. This is the place where defunct tyres are transformed from their original shape and use and are reborn into new and completely different lives. This is an observational documentary that gently explores a community of tyre cutters and recyclers, young and old, as they create with their super-sharp blades, careful eyes and skillful strokes, buckets, brushes and slippers from discarded rubber tyres.

This documentary is available to stream from 1 May (Friday) to 8 May (Friday)
